What does this mean for the wayward diamond shopper?
First, don’t shop for diamonds on Saturday or Sunday, at least not in New York’s Diamond District because no one will be there. If you find yourself in Midtown looking for diamonds we recommend heading about 10 blocks North to 57th and 5th where the big jewelry retailers have their shops – they are open on Saturdays and Sundays. You can do reconnaissance work on 57th Street at Tiffany for example (they’re open from 10:00 to 7:00 on Saturday and 11:00 to 6:00 on Sunday) before you talk to a 47th Street Jeweler.
Next Monday and Friday are both not great days to shop for diamonds. Yes most dealers are in, but why not make sure you have full access?
Finally, your best time to shop is from 10:00AM-5:00PM.
So there you have it, the optimal hours for the Diamond District NYC are Tuesday through Thursday from 10:00AM to 5:00PM – we’re in the wrong business . . .
